"Dance isn't just exercise—it's a pathway to better health, social engagement, and joy. After 14 years teaching mature adults, I've witnessed how a single class can transform someone's confidence, their friendships, and their entire outlook on movement. That's what drives my work."

About Siobhan

14 Years of Dance Education & Wellness Coaching

Siobhan O'Connor is a certified dance instructor and wellness educator with 14 years of experience teaching social dance to adult learners across Ireland. She holds a diploma in Adult Education from University College Cork and completed advanced training in Latin dance pedagogy at the Irish Dance Teachers Association. Based in Waterford, she's worked with over 2,000 mature-age students and established beginner-friendly dance programmes in both Waterford and Kilkenny.

Her journey into dance education began unexpectedly at age 31, when she took her first salsa class as a way to manage stress during a career transition. That single class transformed her life. She soon realised how powerful social dance could be for people returning to movement later in life. She completed her teaching certification through the Irish Dance Teachers Association in 2011 and has since developed specialised curricula for mature beginners.

What drives Siobhan is witnessing the confidence and community connections her students develop. She believes accessibility and patience are non-negotiable—age and prior experience should never be barriers to learning. Her approach celebrates progress at every level, whether someone's learning their first bachata basic or perfecting their salsa timing.

At basesix Ltd, Siobhan combines her teaching expertise with evidence-based research on the physical and mental health benefits of dance for people over 45. Her work has been featured in local wellness publications, and she regularly contributes to educational content about beginner social dance in Ireland.
